Boys: Three locals make All-Region team

December
11

The NSCAA, which hands out these postseason awards, divides the country into eight regions. Region II encompasses New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.

Three local players—Brian Span of North Salem, Brian Rogers of Bronxville, and Greg Shaheen of Byram Hills—made the All-Region squad. Shaheen is the big surprise here since he kind of burst on the soccer scene out of nowhere. Only two sophomores made All-Region, and he’s one of them. Expect to see his name a lot the next couple years.

Here’s the full team.

  1. WHAT ??

    Jake,

How can you name an all-star team 1st and 2nd teams ,pick a list of honorable metions I’m sure everyone one of them deserving, and onit an all-league, all-section, and all-state player from a sectional finalist. you have either mede an honest mistake of ommision or you are just ignorant. P.J. Flynn of Valhalla was named all- section and all- state. I huess you know more soccer than the coaches that pick those teams. He is a quality soccer player but more important a quality young man. He does not need to be told how good he is by a newspaper . His coach and all opposing coaches aknowledge his achievements. Tomorrow they will be wrapping yesterdays fish with your efforts. P.J. will go on to college and have many more great achievements either on the soccer field or the track. SHAME ON YOU

  2. To david....

If PJ doesn’t need a paper to tell him how good he is (btw I play soccer and have never even heard of this kid) then why would you waste your time writing this. Also; learn how to spell. IT’s oMit not oNit.

  3. .....

HE MADE ALL STATE FOR CLASS C, but I guess the soccer expert Mr. Thomases could not find a place for him

Jeff GoldJeff Gold reached the the soccer pinnacle when he was 7 years old. As the star of the Irvington Hurricanes, he led his team to a 13-0-2 record, scoring a goal in every game. Jeff didn't improve much and all of the others did. He only scored two goals as a varsity player, and one time, he was called Josh, so only one goal was official. Jeff worked at The Journal News for a year after graduating from Colgate University. He left for three years to work at Newsday, and returned to The Journal News in 2007. READ MORE
