are any freshman or sophmores on this list?
naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
hi patrice hiii
Jake,
I was supprised not to see Akeeba Marshall from Mount Vernon and Daniel Kelly from Scarsdale on this list. Is there any reason why they were not selected???
suprised to not c ivan cabrera from harrison
Sweeper,
Scarsdale already had 6 guys all section or all section HM so it was tough to get more…
Akeeba’s coach did not go to the selection meeting bc he was fed up with the team, so Akeeba didnt get it
hhh,
I will give the credit to the 6 kids from Scarsdale who I am sure deserve the honors but Kelly shut out opponents in 10 games out of 16 that deserves an honorable mention at the least. They should have plugged one more in. They were a good team and when there is a good team like scarsdales team you can’t leave out exceptional players like Kelly.
As far as Akeeba, was it possible for other coaches to intervene and make the selection for him?
Sweeper…I’m a little surprised about Kelly too. Not even an all-league nod?
As for Akeeba Marshall and Mount Vernon, there was clearly some problem at season’s end. This was a team that declined a playoff spot when it could have made some noise in the postseason. But I also question why the other league coaches didn’t put him up for consideration. They know how good he is.
Not to take anything away from the Keio coach, but how can the conference overlook the coach from Harrison?
Fonseca was one of the best players I saw this fall. Only All-League? He could be in the top 10 of all Section 1 players.
I guess there is more to it then what meets the eye…
Congratulations to all who made it!!!!!!
John Roach from North Salem also received all league honors
Jake,
when will they annouce all state winners.
I’m suprised GK Pat Moesch from John Jay EF didn’t get put up there for at least all league 9 shut-outs all season and in the sectional games and the regional game against NFA I went to he played exceptional and I don’t think personally Kinnear deserves a spot up there as he really under performed in the first Jay Arlington game I saw where Moesch played very well. But congratulations to all and best of luck to all seniors and their college searches and returning players to their teams for next year. Looking forward to a new season of soccer next fall.
Just curious what makes a coach of the year? Who votes on it?
Sweeper you would have to be out of touch if you think there is not more to it than meets the eye.
Sect 1 Fan, the coaches in each league decide who gets the coach of the year nod for their respective leagues.
Congrats to all the young men and their coaches.
Mike,
Gabe Stauber (JJCR) is a sophmore…
Sect 1 fan,
You must have never seen Akeeba Marshall and Mount Vernon Knights play. Because this kid is exceptional. For him not make the sectional seclection list there must have been more to then what meets the eye. Second, The team declined an opportunity to play in the playoffs. So could you please expand on exactly how I am out of touch?
He also could easily make the ALL STATE TEAM.
Just one more thing sect 1 fan… If you asked every coach in the same confrence, they all had a strategy to try and slow him down. They were all unsuccessful. Scarsdale denied him only once.
i can bet my life that akeeba marshall can beat any defence in all section there is some bias here. in all matches he was the players to stop. why why why why did the others coaches did not pick him seeing as how he is so good. he is the only player(other that brian roger) that has score in every game. be fair guys give credit where it is due. let him shine and do not take away his moment of glory.thank u
remember jahmar marshall is coming akeeba marshall brother try to denied him.
Pat Moesch of JJEF aint outstandin. Dat keepa screwed up so damn much. He don’t deserve no all section award but maybe he cud setle wit all league. As for der coach, his team had done so much but i dont tink he has anythin to do wit it.
I would have to say that the JJ East Fishkill boys are really not getting enough recognition for the great season they had and I would like first take the time to say what a great run they had. I went to all the sectional games and their regional games. As for these awards I believe the players get nominated by the coaches and I think Mr. Montalta has done a great job and it is so sad to see him retired. Also I have to give credit to the job done by Tejorn Davis for getting honorable mention. He played with my son a few years back and what an exceptional player. Michael as for Akeeba is really great
I’m sorry just wanted to finish that sentence there Akeeba is such a great player and was really not put up in the spotlight here what a shame.
Eric Fortier is the most overrated player i have ever seen in Class AA Section one soccer. he does not play well with his teammates and is probably top five in dirtiest players in new york state. he has no heart and desire to win and it is surprising at how far he was able to take arlington into the sectional tournament. if arlington had another foward like Hiroki Kobayashi to play alongside Farrier they would have defeated Jay in the section final.
Doug, are you kidding me? Eric Fortier plays hard and if you saw his game against New Rochelle, u would agree. A great player and a great teammate, he’s played with my child since the age of 9. Montalto is to blame for Arlington’s unsuccessful season, he just lost hope early on.
I am surprised that JJEF’s Patrick Alverez did not take home an All-Section award. Always a threat in the midfield, his decisive goals against NFA should have cemented his place alongside his other three teammates. Not one to start a controversy but i feel that he deserved the award over fellow midfielder Mathew Yackel. Matt did indeed have a solid performance during the regular season (scoring against arlington and scarsedale) but it seemed his form suffered throughout the playoffs. However, both of these players helped carry JJEF to an undefeated regular season and a Final Four berth. Good luck to both of them next year as they are the only returning starters besides Brandon Laffin and Jared Deck, and will have a daunting task against the always strong Admirals.
Sweeper
Out of touch yes, not always the better player gets credit or recognition (my point was get real there is politics in everything) and behind the scene talks YES EVEN IN YOUTH SPORTS. Come on tell me that kids don’t get overlooked. These awards are based mostly on statistics but how do defenders get stats. LIFE IS NOT FAIR BOO WHO better learn it now
Sect 1 fan,
I am sorry you never had the chance to see him play. Even with all the politics this is not an overlooked player. Every single team had a hell of a time with him. He broke down defenders and left goal keepers frozen. If statistics is the measure for an award then he was top ten in a very competitive confrence. And also lead his league is both scoring and assist. I guess if he lead in scoring and assist that would only mean that he lead in points too. Wow!! Not to mention that he played as a sweeper in more than 70% of his games. Still was able to score like a striker consistantly.
I guess because of politics there was not a single player from Mount Vernon selected for any award and some behind the scenes talk to have Mount Vernon not play a single game in the playoffs. I AM COMPLETELY OUT OF TOUCH.
Pat Alvarez is a ball hog who John Jay had to overcome to make the Final 4. He needs to learn soccer is a team game and not all about him. Pat is not even in the same league as Matt Yackel.
I would just like to say that all these players deserved their spots here on the list and I would like to say that everyone needs to grow up and stop saying who deserves a spot more than another. Other then that I am anxiously waiting the release of the Poughkeepsie Journal sectional teams. Great season everyone!
HOW COME MY BOY TERRELL DID NOT MAKE IT ON HERE?
this site is stupid, everyone did what they needed to do. The season is over fellas—-some should have made all-section that didnt and are obviously better than those who did, but thats just how it goes. Congrats to everyone.
I am still quite mad my boy terrell didn’t make it!
Shaniqua,
Nobody cares about your “homie” terrell. He sounds like a football or basketball “playa” more than a soccer player. I think i saw him robbing a liquor store the other night. But it was dark so i couldn’t tell.
I love JJEF Soccer you boys are amazing and I love all of you and hope you all go far in college. All other high schools are inferior to John Jay because Pat Alvarez’s amazing game changing ability. By being unstoppable force in the midfield and he is the key reason they did not get knocked out in the second round like last year. Pat Alvarez is the reason why all state Jake Keegan had over 30 goals this season. By far the best player to come out of the hudson valley making Jeff Matteo look like a rec league player.
GoJJ,
That is the most ridiculous post i have ever read. Jeff Matteo played pro soccer and pat alvarez is lucky he had a great team so he could go along for the great ride the team took him on. He is the one who plays like a rec player and acts like a cocky, overrated piece of garbage.
Can you please for one second of ur life stop bragging about your own imaginary ability. it is really getting disgusting the things you say about yourself and it has to stop. There is a reason you weren’t even all-section and the sooner you learn that you are an average player at best that instead of making his teammates better actually makes them far worse by not passing the ball.
Wow would all of you stop talking abbout JJEF. They are the most undeserving team and all of the players are cocky self-centered and selfish. I am so fed up with everyone picking on poor Patrick. He is not the only player on the team, and obviously one player does not make a huge difference in the game of soccer. No, it was the entire team that was the disappointment and lost to unbeaten Clarence. I was a spectator during their game against Scaresdale B, and I was horrified at how unsportsmanlike they were. Picking on a younger, and much less talented team until they were on the verge of tears? It was something that very much annoyed me, especially when they ran up the score to an embarressing 10-0. The only reason any of the JJEF players were recognized was because they “padded” their stats the entire season and were not out for the team. I am genuinely glad this group of boys did not take home the title, and will be waiting to see their next year’s team get humiliated by Arlington and Scarsedale.
y don’t the organisation organise all sectional against honorary mention match. to everyone out there akeeba marshall is the best out there without trying and remember his brother is coming.denied him. thank u
tony s if u had seen akeeba play u would b piss ask every coach, players and every people that came to the matches 2 c him play.i will not condone injustice he deserve it.all the coaches would love to have him on their team. he is a gem.
How did JJEF pad their stats their best players played either none or very little of the second half in all of their blowouts so that would definately not be padding their stats.
Dear GoJJ,
If it were not for Pat Alvarez JJEF would have won states.
i have no control over my body
what club team does akeeba play for?
what club team does akeeba play for?
Akeeba is currently not registered on a club team as far as I know. Do you have any suggestions??
i would like to see how he does at the club level, you cant really judge a player by playing against high school competition
Rex,
I coach at a premier level and I know talent when I see it. This kid is one of the most talented players I have seen in a long time. At the club level I know he could easily dominate.
Pat alvarez is a great player and played a team game. give it up already!
Akeeba is really bad. I don’t understand what people see in him (sweeper) honestly if he was good don’t you think he would have got all state?? So fact of the matter Akeeba is not good so stop trying to bring up his rep.
I got smarts,
I don’t have to try to bring is rep up. He earned his rep on the pitch. As he takes his game to the collegiate level he WILL make noise. He did not earn an award because his coach did not attend the sectional meeting. Thats the only reason why. As a matter of fact, I just found out that other coaches did consider him. His coach not being there was what made it not happpen. Just to rub it in your face…his name was also considered as section one “MVP”. Why wouldn’t a player considered for the MVP of a section one make “ALL STATE”?
As for you, I would recommend getting some “smarts” because you clearly do not have any. If you read the previous blogs then you would not have wasted time writting that insensitive piece.
I know you must be one of the many defenders that he made look stupid and inexperienced. Don’t worry, it was his last year. Oh by the way next year his younger brother will make you cry…...
Those are my last words on this matter.
Congratulations to all section one players named above!!!!! It was great season and I wish you all the best…
Sweeper,
Akeeba is a good player but not a great one. This is why on the field he looses his head to easily and starts to play dirty. I saw this when they played New Rochelle and White Planes(AT WP). But he is a good player and could be better if he would be more of a team player. Also i don’t think he is the best forward in all section 1. I would consider him top 5 but not the best. Sweeper do u know who else got considered for section one MVP??????
MY TOP 5 BEST FORWARDS Of SECTION 1
Please leave comments if you would have a different TOP 5.
1. Arturo Barrajas, New Rochelle
2. Brain Rogers, Bronxville
3. Jake Keegan, JJEF
4. Akeeba Marshall, Mount Vernon
5. Adam Rose, Scarsdale
Okay there is no reason to go ranting and raving on how good Akeeba is! Honestly if you are putting him to be as good as your saying then his team would have made it far….Am I not right on this I mean you are portraying him as some sort of god. So stop saying how good he is when I’m sure you have never seen Jake Keegan play. This kid is truly amazing and he is going to work wonders playing D1 ball his freshman year in college. So look beyond Akeeba and see the other players that are better then him and if he was considered for MVP then how come he did not make all state like Jake Keegan….?? Also I would like to say that Akeeba Marshall would have been completely shut down by the strong Defense given the chance. One of the best defenses in the state would have made him look like nothing. So put him up against a real defense.
Thank you for your time.
The Real Fan
Adam Rose is not that good if you would have watched him in the Jay Scarsdale. Sectional Final game he got shut down by the strong Jay defense.
Akeeba Marshall is a good player but the reason he didn’t make all section was because nobody got a chance to see him play. After all, Mount Vernon did play a lot of night games this year.
1. I would put Jake Keegan I agree with I got smarts he is an amazing player. He scored 30 goals and made everyone else on his team look better.
2. I would put Brian Rogers some people might have him at #1, but he plays in Class B.
3. I would put Arturo Barajas here, but that is questionable because he only had 11 goals.
4. I would put Hiroki Kobayashi here I only saw him once in the section finals, but he was very good.
5. I don’t know who would be 5 cause I have not seen all the strikers play and the ones I did I only saw a minimal number of games by them.
Someone should do rankings for midfielders, defenders, and goalkeepers.
SOmeone should do rankings for keppers, defenders, and midfielders.
I believe Daniel Kelly and Pat Moesch both played exceptional goalkeeping…but im not the one to rank anybody.
Greg Waller is by far number 1. I saw him play JJEF in sectionals and he made 3 or 4 amazing saves.
To all,
The only reason arturo only had 11 goals was because he was playing center midfield for new ro. I have seen him play out side of school and is definitely the number 1 striker. Also keegan is good and is still 2 in my rankings. My ranking remains the same. i cant wait to see these two go at it when fc Westchester plays Albertson academy. Does any one know who are all the players considered for all section mvp.
Is greg waller from Horace Greeley? If so he is not bad…but you gotta give credit to Moesch for helping JJEF to where they got. The same goes for Daniel Kelly. Both are excellent keepers.
Greg Waller is from Greeley and yes I agree Kelly and Moesch are both great keepers.
Yea it would be nice if someone would rank the keepers as I am intrigued to find out what people think. This year I believe has been full of excellent goal keepers.
The Real Fan,
Keegan does not play for Albertson or FC. He plays for the East Fishkill Thunder.
top 5 keepers:
1. Moesch-JJEF
2. Dan Foci-Lakeland
3. Josh Weiner-Byram Hills
4. Greg Waller-Greeley
5. Ronald Bonilla-White Plains
Okay we got one ranking set up for keepers. anyone else care to rank the keepers.
Ranks,
your right. I believe he ment to say rogers. I agree with him as i would wanna watch arturo go against brian.
my top 5 keepers.
1. Josh Weiner-Byram Hills
2. John Carlos Valencia-New Rochelle
3. Moesch-JJEF
4. Ronald Bonilla-White Plains
5. Dan Foci-Lakeland
Hey any one wanna put up a 11 ALL-STAR for section 1(only use al section players). Use this format 2-fowards,4-midfielders,4 defenders, and one keeper.
When do the journal news all county awards come out
josh weiner #1 keeper in state
10504 you are probably josh weiner lmao or part of his family! haha Byram Hills had an okay season but what happened to them in sectionals when the pressure was on? they crumbled
I got smarts,
Would you please stop idolizing JJEF’s Pat Moesch and Scarsedale’s Dan Kelly. Both are mediocre at best, and were supported by two very strong defenses. Both teams were so good because there forwards are probably the best defensive forwards in the state. Obviously you are either Moesch or Kelly just trying to bring your rep up.
BTW the best goalie is actually Lourde’s Nick Gent. He is a brick wall!!!!
Yea I am Kelly you found me out! Nick Gent who is he I’m pretty sure he is not good at all so bring someone good to the table and maybe I will agree but if you were at the NFA game or even the Scarsdale game you would have seen how well Moesch performed and Daniel Kelly played quite amazing himself despite 2 really nice shots by Jake Keegan
I got smarts,
Yea okay and I am Nick Gent. Kelly yes you are a decent keeper, but i have to disagree with your assesment of J.W. Moesch. He is an awful keeper that is prone to dropping the ball (ex. Spakenkill).
clearly the 3 best keepers are josh weiner, john carlos valencia, and ronald bonilla…all 3 are playing at the highest level of soccer in the country right now by playing on fc westchesters academy. greg waller, pat moesch, dan kelly, and nick gent dont even deserve to be compared to these 3.
Greg Waller is by far the best goalie in the section and you would know that if you actually saw him play. Just because you play on a better club team does not make you a better goalie. It might give you better recognition and training, but that does not make you better, it only helps you look it.
I agree with stud. Also Arturo Barajas and JP and play for fc westchester.
if greg waller is so good why isnt he playing club soccer?
I don’t know. Maybe he’s on a club and they aren’t big so you don’t know about it.
Since when does paying over $3000 dollars plus travel expense money make you a better soccer player?
since the fact that your playing against the best competition in america and having d1 coaches at every single game and scouts for the us national team at some game also…yeah i would say that would probably make you a better player
gaetano casarella from harrison baby, part of one of the best defenses around, thts my boy rite there
That still does not make any sense so D1 coaches watching you and playing against “the best competition” makes you the best player. Right….in all the years I have coaches I have never seen a more ridiculous comment.
coached*
I a not Josh Weiner. I have seen him play and he is the one, if not the best goalies in the state. I agree with Stud
Just face it, all the best players are playing academy (with the exception of keegan)
You do not have to play academy to be good. I have known many kids that have played on super Y teams and stuff like that and it has ruined their soccer playing experience as it is all politics and many parents get to involved in it. I don’t think by paying $3,000+ classifies you as a better soccer player then someone else. What if someone can’t afford to play on an academy team or they just don’t want to play with all the politics. I am pretty sure that doesn’t make them a better person. I would take the East Fishkill Thunder over FC Westchester’s academy team any day.
to i got smarts:
with the exception of jake keegan, how many people on the east fishkill thunder are playing college soccer?
im pretty sure about 3/4 of the players on the u18 fc westchester academy team has committed to play in a college next year
I’m pretty sure at least half of the team is playing soccer in college. They are a very good team and all of these new “academy” teams are just something for someone to make some money off of it. The only reason they play for these teams is because they think they will automatically play in college if they join these teams. Which is not the truth.
East Fishkill Thunder beat FC Westchester 3 to 1 in Region 1 last year.
East Fishkill beat fc when the game had no meaning. A game that did have meaning was the sate final were fc beat them 3-0. Also the fc academy helps out kids that are good and cant afford it. Also thats why dan from East Fishkill left East Fishkill for fc and won a state cup and a disney cup. Everyone get your facts straight.
Dan came back to East Fishkill and when FC beat them in the finals it was 2 years ago.
Waller is pretty good, and Foci is good too. both from the same league.Rubenstein is good but not great on the ground you also have to look at the quality of the defense. weiner never faced that many shots and its really hard to say he is top of the state. i can’t wait for the controversy that stirs up when the all-stars are released.
Dan went back to East Fishkill because the fc 91 team broke up so he didn’t wanna be in the academy.
akeeba marshall want 2 play 4 a good club premier team . he is 18 now
I’m sure it came down to the greeley goaile and the lakeland goalie for journal news 1st team goalie. What does everyone think of this pick? As far as I’m concerned as an unbiased former coach who did not see either team play this year is that Greely looked like the better def team who gave up less goals. The lakeland goalie is very good and is only a junior. TO me grade should not matter only if it is a tough decision and then you have to look at wins and leadership. If thats the case who does it go to?
One things for sure: the infamous Scarlington disease along with Sticky fingers Syndrome were cured throughout the soccer season. Hopefully a certain “Spaniard” can overcome Ballhog syndrome and develop game changinitis by next season.
Dr. Rubinstein,
I believe that is a correct assessment.
I just left the 100th comment.
josh weiner isn’t bad, him and rubenstein form harrison played cub together for a few years, although rubenstein is a few inches shorter the coaches consistently considered him the better of the two, rubenstein was robbed of his all section honor but in the long run i guess its all right because he robbed byram hills of another sectional title
maybe rubenstein was better then, but weiner is MUCH better now

If they did it was not their top team. FC plays in the Development Academy at the U-16 and U-18 level. If you are for real you play on an academy team PERIOD. there are scholarships for thos who cannot afford it on every team in the area.
Go to any FC game U-16 or U18 and you will open up your eyes to the best players in NY and the surrounding counties.
Fonseca—-LOL He got cut from the regular FC team a copule of years ago. Any good mid on any Academy team can cut him up on the field.
Keegan—-30 Goals When and Where? Look at the leader board and look at the points per game of the really great forwards and mids.
Dear Move on,
First of all nobody had left a comment in quite a long time until you did, so why don’t you move on but to your keegan’s coach did not report scores or stats to this web site so he is not here. Go to http://www.johnjaysoccer.com click on boys team then 2008 click on varsity game results and all of his goals are shown in the match results.
Watch out for my boy Greg Shaheen, rippin it up in acadamey, when he comes back to HS 25+ goal easy.
Same with josh weiner he playing with 18s, physically he is amazing, and mentally he is know much better then he was a couple years ago, i played club with him for 4 yrs now same with hank.. Hank is going to bucknell and will try to walk on probably. Most of FC 16’s, hiroki, juan chang, Cesar and Jerry ceja cesar got called up to USNT 15s, us 3 CT kids rory me and ryan oconnel
cagbbxuztahnqmfswell, hi admin adn people nice forum indeed. how’s life? hope it’s introduce branch
east fishkill might have beaten fcs u18 in region 1, but fc did beat them in a much more important game, the state cup final. also, not to mention, fcs u16s beat the east fishkill u16s 7-0 in the 2nd round of the state cup last year. so i would say overall fcs a much better club.
yo greg waller is by far the best in the section and i completely disagree with stud.
fonseca signed to cruzeiro u-17 when he was 16 and could have stayed for 2 years if he took that option. u-17 division 1 in brazil is a little more competetive then the u.s academy, wouldnt you say? he also got cut in 2005 when he was u-13. the coach was from cuba.
you all love huge cock in your mouth.
...and i got smarts is a fuking idiot.
