Girls regional finals

Class C at Yorktown: Stony Brook vs. North Salem

Final: Stony Brook 2, North Salem 1

Update 1: Debbie Schechter, who is at Charlie Murphy Field, reports that it’s tied at 1-1 at the half.

Class B at Yorktown: Lansing vs. Briarcliff

Final: Briarcliff 2, Lansing 1

The defending state champions advance to Friday’s state final four in Cortland.

Update 3: Briarcliff leads 2-1 with 21:16 remaining. Danielle Christiano just scored for the Bears.

Update 2: Liana Cornacchio tied it at 1-1 with 25:26 remaining in the second half.

Update 1: Jeff reports Lansing leads 1-0 at the half.

Class A at Yorktown: Cornwall vs. Rye

Final: Rye 3, Cornwall 0

Rye advances to the state final four on Friday in Cortland.

Update 2: Rimmer scores again and Rye now leads 2-0 with about 30 minutes remaining in the second half.

Update 3: It’s 1-0 Rye at the half.

Update 1: Jeff Gold reports Alex Rimmer has scored for the Garnets. Rye leads 1-0 in the first half.

Boys regional finals

Class B at Mitchel Field, Hempstead: Bronxville vs. Cold Spring Habor

Final: Bronxville 4, Cold Spring Harbor

The Broncos advance to state final four and will play Saturday at 9 a.m. against an opponent TBD.

Brian Heyman reports that Bronxville leads 4-0 with 24 minutes remaining.

Brian Rogers has two goals and one assist and now has 40 goals for the season.

Class A at Arlington: Harrison vs. Owego

Final: Harrison 2, Owego 0

The Huskies advance to next week’s state final four in Oneonta

Update 1: Justin Jones reports Harrison leads 2-0 at halftime on goals by Ivan Cabrera and Andres Duarte.

Class C at Diamond in the Pines Complex in Brookhaven: North Salem vs. Southold

Final: North Salem 2, Southold 0

The Tigers advance to the state semifinals next weekend in Oneonta.

Update 2: North Salem leads 2-0 with seven minutes remaining. Matt Loeb scored the Tigers’ second goal of a pass from Brian Span.

Update 1: Jake just checked in and reports North Salem leads 1-0 at halftime. Greg Shea scored with five minutes left in the first half against the No. 1-ranked team in the state. The game is in rain delay because there was thunder.

Jeff GoldJeff Gold reached the the soccer pinnacle when he was 7 years old. As the star of the Irvington Hurricanes, he led his team to a 13-0-2 record, scoring a goal in every game. Jeff didn't improve much and all of the others did. He only scored two goals as a varsity player, and one time, he was called Josh, so only one goal was official. Jeff worked at The Journal News for a year after graduating from Colgate University. He left for three years to work at Newsday, and returned to The Journal News in 2007. READ MORE
