High school soccer in the Lower Hudson Valley

Boys: Wednesday state regionals

November
5

Sorry about the blogs being down. Seems like everything’s fixed now. We’ll have updates during today’s games.

In the regional semifinals today, Bronxville plays Spackenkill of Section 9 at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton. Spackenkill (14-3) is a modern Section 9 dynasty, having won five sectional titles in a row. Last year it went all the way to a state championship. Then again, it was much better last year. It was the only team to beat Byram Hills, after all. This year Byram reversed that result, 4-0.

Also playing today at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome will be North Salem and Rhinebeck. Rhinebeck (14-3) needed overtime to win Section 9, something North Salem narrowly avoided. You can read the championship story here.

Jeff GoldJeff Gold reached the the soccer pinnacle when he was 7 years old. As the star of the Irvington Hurricanes, he led his team to a 13-0-2 record, scoring a goal in every game. Jeff didn't improve much and all of the others did. He only scored two goals as a varsity player, and one time, he was called Josh, so only one goal was official. Jeff worked at The Journal News for a year after graduating from Colgate University. He left for three years to work at Newsday, and returned to The Journal News in 2007. READ MORE
