And we’re off …

I covered the New Rochelle-North Rockland game and New Rochelle played a good one. The ‘good’ New Rochelle team showed up and not its alter ego. The Huguenots had plenty of quality chances and hit the crossbar twice, so the score could’ve been even more in their favor. Now, the real question is can they keep this thing rolling because, gulp, guess who’s next up: Top-seeded and defending champion Arlington! Yikes.

Here’s the rest of the scores from Sunday. What do you guys think so far? How about Suffern getting upset by Clarkstown North. I talked with North coach Byran Bentley earlier tonight and he wasn’t even at the game because he received his third yellow card of the season in the game I covered against North Rockland on Tuesday. What a surprise phone call he got from his assistant coach after the game, huh? What do you think that conversation was like?

Anyway, here you go. Thoughts?

Hen Hud got referreed out of the sectionals today when a clear offsides call was not called leading to the winning goal in the 2nd overtime. Even with more refs available on a Sunday, there are just too many bad refs doing HS soccer.

its high school sports, not professionals… offsides is one of the hardest things to call in soccer, especially without having a linesman along with a ref… it was probably close, but you have to give them a break, they are doing the best they can

    Rod,
you missed one of the best games in a long time for high school soccer, at suffern middle school. There were yellow cards, red cards, great goals, and people even went to the hospital. This game was very intense and when clarkstown north scored about 2 goals in less than 5 mins, and 3 goals in about 10-15 mins, thats when we knew we had a chance to finally beat suffern. Though Clarkstown North were getting nervous when it was 3-2 and we were down a man with less than 25 minutes to play, we had to go all out Defense, and we shut them down! It feels great to beat suffern, especially in a section game, and move on to the next round vs. Greeley. Rod hope your there because that should be another good game(Tuesday 10/30 @Greeley).

Offsides is not hard in a 2 man system when the referee properly stays with the last defender. The kids all work so hard for 3 months to have their season end on a call becuase the referee was out of position. It was a terrible call which was confirmed by the Byram Hills coach who was scouting his next opponent.

bad calls happen at every level of sports, from professional down to the lowest, if bad calls are made by the best referees in professional sports then they are bound to happen by guys who ref as part time jobs, its unforunate, but its life.

  6. Hi

Hey Hen Hud Dad can you stop all of that crying over there? You just keep on complaining about the call. I bet it was not offsides but you just are trying to blame the first thing you can think of because your a sore loser. If there is problems w/ school officials then you should put on a referee uniform and show us all how it is done.

Hey Hen Hud dad. What makes you think that you got the call right and not the official?? Don’t you think that you are a little less than objective while watching your son’s team play?? And most coaches know less about the rules of the game than parents do. Most don’t even own a rule book. Sounds like sour grapes to me. I think you should become certified and officiate high school games next season and see how different it is on the pitch instead of sitting in the stands complaining.

HH daddy’s boy is done. do you need a tissue also?

What’s up with the Clarkstown North coach not being able to coach his team in the 1st round of the sectionals due to 3 yellows? He must have an awesome assistant coach who knows the game well to beat Suffern a player down in the final 25 minutes of the game.

I like seeing the Clarkstown North support! That’s what i’m talking about, we get some respect for once.. Well It should be another good game tomorrow when Clarkstown North visits Greeley. Hopefully Clarkstown North gets some support from the crowd..

Jeff GoldJeff Gold reached the the soccer pinnacle when he was 7 years old. As the star of the Irvington Hurricanes, he led his team to a 13-0-2 record, scoring a goal in every game. Jeff didn't improve much and all of the others did. He only scored two goals as a varsity player, and one time, he was called Josh, so only one goal was official.
