Bracketology 101: Section 1 style

October
24

Byram Hills (Class A), Hastings (Class B), Valhalla (Class C), and Arlington (Class AA) each earned the top seed in their respective classes for the Section 1 tournament, which begins this weekend.

Think the people who follow Our Lady of Lourdes won’t be mad when they wake up and see the Warriors missing from the bracket? They were going to garner the No. 2 seed in Class A, but the were disqualified because they played 19 games, one above the maximum allowed. Ouch. Instead, Lakeland (12-5-1) moved into the second spot.

I’ll chime in with a comprehensive look as well as my predictions for the tournament on Friday. So look for it then. In the meantime, feel free to break this bracket down. Give me your picks. Who you guys going with?

Before the playoffs begin, however, the all-section picks will be selected. The meeting, originally scheduled for next Tuesday, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Byram Hills.

A is gonna be good…real good Land is playin well and with a healthy Malan back(no pun)should make a great run. Port chester is very dangerous and will be a tough opponent. But, the Hills have the best all around organized and disciplined team Go cats!

  2. Ronaldo

    Rod,

Who are your predictions for winning each of the different classes?

  3. max

    Lourdes

That coach and AD should be embaressed, thats just pathetic.

  4. max

Where is Dobbs Ferry, didnt they have a winning league record, wasnt that enough to qualify for Sectionals?

  5. fly

i think land has a pretty clear route to the finals in A. theyd probably end up playing harrison after a first round against eastchester/sleepy hollow. not looking past any team, but if they take care of business they should be in the finals without much of a problem. byram hills on the other hand could end up seeing keio in the semis which is a very dangerous game.

  6. 10/ 1970

Fred Sandhop is the Coach of the Year

  7. 10/ 1970

    WERDD SANDHOP aLL THE WAY

  8. 10/ 1970

dude bryam beat keio 4-0 in league

  9. steve

i think NS is gonna run away with B, the only team that poses a real challenge besides NS in B is bronxville, but we saw what happened in regular season between the two

  10. Soccer

wow steve how can u say that Bronxville is the Only threat and NS has it NS is the 4 seed despite beating bronxville 2-0 so did edgemont and edgemont is the 2 seed with a much more difficult schedule, Edgemont is going to pull away with it

  11. soccerfan

greely is going to get upset by ketcham in the first round

  12. Dude

Ossining got a terrible draw and will lose to scarsdale in the first round. Also mamaroneck has a good chance at beating white plains.

  13. soccerfan

yea…scarsdale is going to wreck ossining

  14. j.

north rockland vs. new rochelle and suffern vs. clarckstown north are prob. gonna be the best games to watch in AA

  15. spanky

I’m really excited for the class d finals, Solem Schecter seems like a favorite but we never know who might just show up. In class A i think that harrison’s Pedro Vandunem and Anthony Rodriguez are going to help the huskies to victory. Rodriquez and Dunem might just be the best duo in section 1, throwing balls and working scoreboards. After a long season Vandunem looks a little worn out but I still think he has a little left in him for sectionals. Lets go Keio Unicorns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Ronaldo

Let’s face it, some athletic directors just aren’t doing their jobs. The Our Lady of Lourdes situation speaks for itself. Just last weekend, the White Plains AD had to scramble to re-schedule a great game against Keio because he suddenly realized at 4:00pm on Friday that the PSATs were being administered on Saturday morning. And the Briarcliff AD had to pull his boys’ team out of the finals of the Irvington Tournament, suddenly realizing that they would have 19 games, one over the limit. What gives??? It’s a shame when kids are penalized because of incompetent adults.

wut the hell happend to hastings winin b!!!

Jeff didn't improve much and all of the others did. He only scored two goals as a varsity player, and one time, he was called Josh, so only one goal was official.
